wide open spaces

SO!
Now begins the new (school) year of blogging! I am now in third year at the lovely York University, (many) minutes away from the big city of Toronto and, I have officially fallen in love with my surroundings. For the first two years of school I was really uncertain of my decision and felt as getting a degree from York was not as special as getting a degree from a quote unquote prestigious school and then this year, in my new degree of Humanities I have decided that who the hell cares where you get your degree from, it's what you do with it. F Maclean's magazine, I love York.

Tomorrow I begin volunteering with chillens again! I am so very excited! This time it'll be in a different sort of setting because it'll be at a Montessori school. I most definitely will provide updates of what I'm learning there.

Problem: Currently, I am incredibly hyped on the caffeine. Oh dear... I have to get up in t-minus... very few hours. Ah well, such is life.

This week was the week of some firsts.

Yesterday was my first time making an Indian dish - Butter chickpea curry- and today was my first time donating blood! Now I have a sweet purple bruise and a sticker to show for it. I'm quite happy about it and am sort of bragging about it. I just get a little excited sometimes... or all the time. This week was also the first time I visited a few of my profs office hours so I can talk to them about improving my essays. The great thing is, my profs are pretty much amazing- especially my Fantasy in the Modern world prof and my Sikhism prof. They just inspire me so much, it's kinda crazy.

My prof for Fantasy in the Modern World is just so freaking smart. He remembers all these quotes, books, authors, operas... he oozes information. He's genuinly interested in what he teaches and wants all his students to be into it too.

My Sikhism prof is awesome because
a. She encourages a lot of discussion and I'm learning so much from Sikhism through this way of teaching.
b. She mentioned "The Office" in class and was happy that Jim and Pam got married (who are the most adorable tv couple- ever)
c. She is just plain cool, really approachable and friendly. She also supported my idea of having a pizza party on the last day of class but instead of pizza- it'd be indian food. I am so very excited!

ALL teachers need to be like this. It happens far too much where teachers view their job as a drag when they should be inspiring, causing their students to crave more and more knowledge.

In terms of my living space, the maison franglais, I am quite happy. I get to live with three awesome people. Melly my wife, Britt, Mikey, and the fou minou, Maya. Without my peeps, I don't know where I'd be so I am very grateful to have them only a yell away.

The house on Halloween minus Mikey plus Johnny (Britt's bf)
House of AWESOME? I think yes

oh, hello

the life of a minou

Here are some completely un-related pictures of... my... halloween costume! GUESS WHAT I WAS!

I was just proud with how my costume turned out...

... really proud.

It's funny because when I was younger I wanted to get those store bought princess costumes even when my mom stayed up all night to make me a star (literally). She cut diaper boxes and made them into the shape of a star. I was embarrassed then but looking back on it now, I was so freaking lucky. How I love my parentals.

Tis all for now!

Sincerely,

me
